Sadly today more and more areas of the world are being referred to as hostile and not surprisingly the population of expats involved in such working is daily increasing as is the risks to them.

More evacuations occur as a result of road traffic accidents in remote and hostile areas than occur as a result of hostile action, and malaria accounts for more illness than any other single disease. It is also the commonest cause of unconsciousness in the world

Hazards faced apart from the effects of bullets mines and other ordinance, include falls, encounters with poisonous animals, attacks from aggressive animals including crocodiles pumas and other wild beasts.

In some areas where envenomation has taken place only advice and treatment within minutes or hours can save the life.

Advice as to the appropriate measures to put in place before teams venture into such environments is often more valuable than planning the evacuation as an after event.
